In the mid 90's DJ Parrot & myself started HOODOO along with, initially, Robin Taylor Firth & then with Dave Lloyd. We did evening sessions in the small room at FON Studios, gradually building up a body of work which Parrot touted around to whoever he could. We managed a few releases here & there but what we were attempting to do had little in common with the fashion of the day.

We were making hybrids of electronic funk fueled blues that had no previous template. The closest comparison might have been Tricky, but only inasmuch as he was also mashing together disparate musics to create something with an individual identity.

As time went on the tracks became more and more agitated and dissonant. I was most definitely angry about lots of thing! And Parrot was becoming more and more disillusioned with the current state of dance music which had grown insipid & formulaic.

Earlier this year I realised there were still a few HOODOO tracks which had been overlooked on the 2 previous releases on Wrong Revolution & thought it was about time I looked at them to see if I could get them spruced up for release. The process of contortion & distortion worked well & so I thought it would be fun to apply it to some of the other tracks and create a harder, angrier feel to a kind of 'Best of Hoodoo'.

Everything got pushed up into the red, the beats mangled and crushed, the vocals threatening to swallow themselves. When all this was completed and I started putting together a lyric sheet I realised just how totally pissed off I'd been; absolutely spitting nails to the point of explosion! This wasn't method acting it was genuine, fuming catharsis.

So, here it is, violent and ugly and beautiful because of it.
