about

HOPE JASNOCH REDUNDANT REALITIES has been work in progress for the last year and represents a step into a parallel dimension of acoustic free (though not totally improvised) composition.

Iconic Sheffield stringsman John Jasnoch has tirelessly expanded his mastery of numerous string and percussive instruments over the years and showcases a fine collection here (including bass banjo, acoustic lap-steel, bass guitar, mandriola, octave mandolin, mazhar, naqqarat and one string phono-fiddle).

Johns compositions are both detailed and loose and are the foundation of each track, remaining unaltered as the vocals and woodwinds are added to expand and colour the piece further.

The lyrics are written in direct response to the track in real-time. The idea being to concentrate an improvised flow that remains unfiltered by second guessing. Each vocal is then recorded using the same spontaneous technique, as far as is possible, with additional fx and detailing added at the final mixing/balancing stage.

Although mainly working as a duet we are also very grateful for woodwind contributions from Discus head honcho Martin Archer and Adam Woolf.

Our history of working together goes back to the mid 1980's, Dry Hip Rotation & The Bone Orchestra, followed by further electronic/acoustic experiments in the 90's. At various points we have attempted to kick something new into motion and have finally gathered the disparate threads of years of left-field music-making into a cohesive and expansive identity.

We're very excited about this first collection and are already shaping ideas for the next chapter.

Thanks
Pete Hope
